According to the article, kinky sex is on the rise. In other words, more kinksters are emerging.

We all know the internet has made kink more mainstream. But has this more mainstream interest introduced people to kink that would not be (for want of a better word) "bent" that way?
Or has the kink always been there, it's just more people feel safe allowing it to emerge b/c it's more mainstream these days?

True but are these new numbers showing people who want to be kinky only for sex or for more as in its a lifestyle choice? thats where its going to be hard to determine things. More and more new faces are emerging but only thniking of it as a way to find sex. So one has to wonder about that as well.

ReplyDeleteMy overall experience has been that MOST people get into this lifestyle through a sexual need or a sexual hook up. I did. People would say things like "BDSM is not about sex," and I'd be like, WTF? Okay, I was young. And I could see it was about power dynamics, but sex was the trigger for me and in large part still is.
I do think that these days a lot of newbies enter the BDSM scene both online and offline, because they see it as a way to make a quick sex hook up. Like we're all indiscriminate swingers.
Really I think a newbie to BDSM would be so inundated with conflicting information about the lifestyle its a wonder any of them stick. Must be the sex !!
It is hard to tell if its on the rise - but people I meet (both socially and for hookups) are more open and accepting about kink. I find it easier to talk to my friends about my kink interests (even if they are not into these things).
